Detailed description

More about your experience with us

Being one of our guests favorite tours, the Day Trip to Fort Tarakaniv, Dubno and Kremenets shows you a wide variety of the places around Lviv.

Secret Russian 19th century Fort Tarakaniv

With Fort Tarakaniv, one of the best preserved secrets of Galicia is buried under tons of soil and is hard to locate, if you don’t know where it is. The former Russian military complex Fort Tarakaniv was originally built to protect the railroad Kyiv – Lviv. One artillery company and two infantry companies could be housed here. Featuring kilometers of tunnels and passageways, an underground chapel and the headquarters of the fort’s commanders, it’s easy to get lost here. That’s why we guide you through this place, show you where everything was located and tell you the stories connected to it. And with a little bit of luck you will even get to meet the nowadays inhabitants.

Hidden Secrets of Dubno

Dubno on first view seems like any other Ukrainian city. But there are quite a few things to discover. The local castle has been a residence of famous Polish aristocratic families for centuries. But there is also an great but intimidating exhibition of old torture devices here. Apart from the magnificent fortress that offers stunning views on the local river, the city became quite famous in Nikolai Gogol’s novel Taras Bulba, where he talks about the siege of the city by Kossacks. In World War II the city played (like many in the region) a sad role in the Holocaust and was site for several mass shootings. One of them was witnessed by the officer of the German Wehrmacht Axel von dem Bussche, who later conspired with others for an attempt to kill Adolf Hitler. Although most of the Jewish community of Dubno perished in the Shoah, it still features an impressive synagogue and the old Jewish cemetery which we will pass by.

Kremenets – Microcosmos of Ukraine’s history

A little further down the road, Kremenets is probably one of the prettiest cities between Lviv and Kyiv, if not in all of Ukraine. Although small, it actually boasts a ton of historic buildings and fantastic views. To see the town one most go to the top of the former castle on the hill overlooking the city. Next to the historic walls with it’s mystic feel, you can enjoy a great panorama of the city. Polish queen Bona Sforza made the city a rich cultural hotspot. Most impressive still nowadays is the building complex of the old Kremenets Lyceum. Once an important intellectual hotspot this unique example of Baroque architecture tells the troubling history of this city. So does the Jewish cemetery, which is probably the prettiest in the whole region. Rarely are that many gravestones as here and it’s unique position on a hill makes it a real mystic place. In Kremenets one can feel the history of several centuries and there are not many places where it’s so compact in one place. Join us on this adventure and book your tour now.
